Over two decades ago, the Poteet Strawberry Festival Association (PSFA) established its Scholarship Program to help local students pursue higher education. Each year, the Festival funds approximately thirty scholarships for Poteet graduates. The Association itself donates at least ten scholarships annually, while its seven member organizations contribute between two and four each. Additionally, many of the thirty or so non-profit church, school, and civic organizations that operate food booths at the Festival also donate scholarships. To further support ambitious students, the PSFA offers continuing scholarships to those who stay in college and maintain their grades—helping them graduate, earn a degree, and become productive citizens.

Nestled in the heart of South Texas, Poteet has proudly earned its title as the Strawberry Capital of Texas. Just a short drive from San Antonio, this small farming town grew from humble roots — beginning with Henry and Ida Mumme’s backyard strawberry patch — into one of Texas’ most beloved agricultural success stories.
In 1948, the Poteet Rotary Club hosted the very first Poteet Strawberry Festival, launching a tradition that now welcomes thousands of visitors each spring. Today, the festival remains a cherished family-friendly South Texas event, celebrating our local growers, community pride, and the sweet strawberries that made Poteet famous.
